Will Irving

Senior Associate



Will is a senior associate in Russell McVeagh's litigation group. Based in our Auckland office, Will specialises in commercial litigation, with a particular focus on financial services, regulatory enforcement, infrastructure and construction.

Will has extensive knowledge of liabilities under the Securities Act, Financial Markets Conduct Act and the Credit Contracts and Consumer Finance Act. Will also advises on a range of contractual, banking and construction matters.


Since joining Russell McVeagh in 2011, Will has worked on a number of significant matters including:

  • Acting for financial institutions in investigations by New Zealand’s financial regulators.
  • Acting for a retail bank in High Court proceedings involving fraud by an employee of one of its banking customers and associated breach of mandate claims.
  • Acting in arbitrations for a property developer, including in a dispute with a contractual counterparty.

Will joined Russell McVeagh as a solicitor in 2011. He moved into the role of senior solicitor in June 2014 and was promoted to senior associate in December 2016.
