Ed is a commercial property specialist with a focus on overseas investment, commercial and industrial development projects, rural land, primary sector industries, and renewable energy.

He advises clients on a wide range of commercial property matters including acquisitions and disposals, sale and leaseback transactions, development agreements, commercial leases, agricultural leases, and forestry rights. Ed regularly assists clients to navigate New Zealand's overseas investment regime, including by obtaining Overseas Investment Office consents and exemptions.

Ed is a trusted advisor, known for his ability to work through complex legal issues and provide practical advice to his clients. Ed's clients include some of New Zealand's largest companies and institutional property investors.

He first joined Russell McVeagh in 2017. In 2022, Ed left the firm to return to the Waikato region, where he worked for another New Zealand firm. Ed rejoined Russell McVeagh in December 2023. Before starting his career in law, Ed qualified as an Agricultural Diesel Mechanic.

• Logos Property on the acquisition of large-scale industrial redevelopment sites in South Auckland, including for the creation of a logistics hub.

• An ASX-listed green energy company on the leasing and staged development of a greenfield industrial site for its first New Zealand facility.

• Precinct Properties on construction, development and leasing matters related to its development of Wynyard Quarter in Auckland.

• A number of renewable energy companies in relation to the acquisition of interests in rural land for solar farm projects.

• An offshore green investment fund on the acquisition of a 50% stake in a New Zealand geothermal energy producer.

• A number of New Zealand food producers in relation to the acquisition, leasing and portfolio management of their agricultural, horticultural and viticultural landholdings across New Zealand.

• A forestry management company in its role as the licensed manager of forestry-based managed investment schemes, in the lead up to harvesting.

• An NZX-listed entity on the sale and leaseback of its industrial assets.
