The nominations for the second annual Asialaw Asia-Pacific Dispute Resolution Awards have been announced and Russell McVeagh has been shortlisted in three categories: Asia-Pacific Tax Team of the Year, New Zealand Law Firm of the Year and partner Sally Fitzgerald for New Zealand Disputes Star of the Year.

Russell McVeagh’s Tax team is New Zealand’s strongest legal tax practice, with a track record of advising on New Zealand's most significant commercial transactions and tax disputes. In recent years the team has acted on most of the significant New Zealand cases involving corporate and international tax issues, and in the last year has acted on two tax related appeals to the Court of Appeal and the only tax case to have reached the Supreme Court. The team also has strong transactional expertise and is regularly consulted by clients and industry groups on emerging issues and the implications of law reform.

To be shortlisted among peers for New Zealand Law Firm of the Year is great recognition for the firm. Russell McVeagh is the first choice for blue chip companies and banks defending significant commercial disputes, and the firm's litigators are regularly engaged on high risk, high value and high profile matters.

Russell McVeagh partner Sally Fitzgerald is a commercial litigator, has previously been the practice group chair of Russell McVeagh’s Auckland Litigation Group, and holds a position on the firm’s Board of Management. In 2013, she won Australasian Dispute Resolution Lawyer of the Year at the Euromoney Women in Law Awards (the only New Zealander on the shortlist of eight), and in 2015, she won New Zealand Dispute Resolution Lawyer of the Year at the ILO Client Choice Awards (for which lawyers can only be nominated by clients, not by firms). She has been described by clients as: ‘our hand’s down first choice for external support on any dispute or litigation’; ‘epitomising their view of the perfect adviser’, and ‘the very best dispute resolution lawyer they have worked with’. She also sits as a member on the Lawyers and Conveyancers Disciplinary Tribunal.

On September 27th in Hong Kong, the awards evening will celebrate the leaders in 12 practice areas across 14 jurisdictions around the region. Further detail and a full list of finalists can be found here.
