Daniel Minhinnick joined the Russell McVeagh partnership on 1 December 2016, after more than 11 years with the firm. Daniel grew up in Auckland, studied law and science at the University of Auckland, and joined Russell McVeagh in 2005 after summer clerking in 2003/04. He was promoted to Senior Solicitor in 2008, and to Senior Associate in 2011.

Daniel is part of the firm’s National Environment, Planning and Natural Resources (EPNR) Practice Group. His recent work includes securing resource consents for SkyPath, which is a pedestrian and cycleway across the Auckland Harbour Bridge. Daniel has also been advising Stevenson Group on its Drury South development, which involved a large industrial development along with a special housing area development enabling up to 1,000 new homes. He has also been kept busy over the last few years with the Auckland Unitary Plan process, where he has been involved in work with a wide range of the firm’s key clients.

When asked about his specialisation and what he enjoys most, Daniel said,I enjoy helping clients secure resource consents for their developments. I also enjoy the litigation side of the work I do, as much of the work is contentious.”

Daniel will join partners Allison Arthur-Young and Bronwyn Carruthers, to build on their success of leading and shaping a high-performing EPNR Team. Allison Arthur-Young, Partner and Practice Group Chair says, “Dan’s success has been proven through developing strong, enduring relationships with clients, colleagues and the other consultants we work with. I am excited and inspired by the talented group of lawyers we have in our Team, what we have achieved to date, and what we will continue to achieve as a group moving forward.”

Daniel believes that the critical success factors in bringing him to this appointment are being flexible and adaptable. He also says, “It is very important to love the work you do. Our jobs can involve tight deadlines and long hours – if you love the work you do, it makes things much easier. It also helps to have a great team around you, which I am lucky to have.”

Russell McVeagh congratulates Daniel on his new appointment.
