Russell McVeagh partner Alex MacDuff (Litigation/ Restructuring and Insolvency), Special Counsel Hannah Bain (Climate Change and Litigation) and Senior Associate Frida Klippel (Corporate Advisory), have been named in their respective areas on NZ Lawyer's Rising Stars 2024 list, with partner Bradley Aburn (Competition/Antitrust) recognised for a second consecutive year.
The fifth annual Rising Stars list boasts the country's brightest emerging talent and showcases young legal professionals who contribute innovative ideas and forward-thinking practices to the profession.

Meet our Rising Stars
Alex was promoted to the Russell McVeagh partnership in late 2023 and specialises in restructuring, insolvency and special situations. His experience includes advising corporates, financial institutions, insolvency practitioners and other stakeholders on structuring, restructurings, stressed and distressed refinancings, insolvencies and related disputes. Alex is recognised in the main legal directories for R&I including the Legal 500 Asia-Pacific 2024 Guide and the IFLR1000 Asia-Pacific Guide 2023/24 (Rising Star).
Bradley has extensive experience advising a number of high-profile clients on significant matters relating to mergers/acquisitions, competition law investigations, Commerce Commission market studies, and much more. He is recognised as 'Up and Coming' in Competition and Antitrust Law in Chambers & Partners 2024 Guide, a Next Generation Partner in Competition Law by the Legal 500 2024 Guide and is recognised in the peer-nominated Best Lawyers® 2024 Guide. Bradley was named Young Private Practice Lawyer of the Year at the recent NZ Law Awards 2023.
Hannah is a Special Counsel in Russell McVeagh's litigation team and is the firm's Head of Climate Change. In her role as Head of Climate Change, Hannah advises clients in relation to a wide range of climate issues, including climate-related disclosures, the emissions trading scheme, regulatory change and climate-related litigation. She is also a member of the New Zealand Law Society's Climate Change Law Committee. In addition to her climate work, Hannah has over 10 years' experience as a litigator, with particular expertise in complex commercial disputes in the infrastructure, energy, banking and financial services sectors.
Frida is a Senior Associate in Russell McVeagh's Corporate Advisory team, with a focus on mergers and acquisitions, overseas investment, joint venture arrangements, private equity transactions, commercial contracting and general corporate advisory. Frida advises a number of major banks, insurers and other large listed and private companies.
