Hear from our people
Cameron Wright, Solicitor
In the Corporate Advisory team, you will get to know our client's businesses as you help them achieve their commercial and strategic goals. We work for a range of businesses, from private equity and NZX-listed entities, right through to tech start-ups.
Our work is broad and you will interact with clients from day one. We work extensively with other specialist teams across the firm and many of our matters also have an international aspect, meaning you will get exposure to different areas of law in New Zealand and around the world.
Day-to-day, our work involves:
- Negotiating deals: We negotiate deals and draft contracts to achieve our client's transactional goals – from buying and selling companies to raising capital. We familiarise ourselves with our clients' needs by both our client relationship and work in due diligence, and assist them in managing risk and in achieving their commercial objectives through the deal terms.
- Undertaking Due Diligence: We undertake deep dives into companies to understand the legal risks facing a business. As a junior, you will coordinate specialist teams across the firm to prepare and compile reports which have a material impact on our client's decisions on whether to proceed with a transaction.
- Providing advice: We work directly with boards and in-house counsel to make sure that our clients are in compliance with their legal obligations. This is exciting and dynamic work which can range from a one-off client query requiring an urgent response, to extensive reviews of our clients' internal controls and protocols.
People who are practical, solutions-orientated and get on well with others are often a good fit for our Corporate Advisory team. A passion for business is essential.
