Russell McVeagh has been recognised as a finalist ahead of the Australasian Law Awards, with the firm nominated for 'NZ Deal Firm of the Year' and Head of Corporate Advisory, David Hoare, a finalist for 'NZ Dealmaker of the Year'.

Russell McVeagh's Corporate and M&A team was involved in a number of high profile and innovative deals last year which underpin its nomination. These include the sale of New Zealand's four largest banks' shareholdings in Paymark to Paris-based Ingenico Group for US$130 million, as well as transformational insurance sector deals such as acting for Commonwealth Bank of Australia on its divestment of Sovereign to AIA for A$3.8 billion, and acting for Fidelity Life on a NZ$100 million investment from NZ Superannuation Fund. The team also advised Nintex on its acquisition of Promapp, Pencarrow Private Equity on its investment in "The Collective", Carlyle Group on its acquisition of Accolade Wines, Riverside on its investment in the Hiway Group, Bounty Fresh Food on its takeover of Tegel, and Manuka Health on its acquisition of Neuseelandhaus GmbH.

Regarded as one of New Zealand's leading dealmakers, Corporate partner David Hoare has advised on transactions that spanned several continents, including advising Pacific Equity Partners on its sale of Manuka Health NZ and acquisition of Evolution Healthcare, and intelliHUB (which is majority owned by Pacific Equity Partners) in its acquisition of smart-metering business Metrix. He also advised Pencarrow Private Equity on its investment in "The Collective", global investment firm KKR on its bid for Australian accounting software company MYOB, Philippines-based Bounty Fresh Food on its takeover of Tegel, and Keppel Infrastructure Trust on its acquisition of Ixom, to mention a few.

The awards ceremony will be held at The Star in Sydney on Thursday 23 May. The event brings together industry leaders to celebrate excellence in the legal profession and recognise the outstanding achievements of firms and in-house teams across both Australia and New Zealand.
