Profile

Michael is the Head of Infrastructure at Russell McVeagh. He has extensive experience across mergers and acquisitions, joint ventures and corporate and project finance transactions.

Michael has in-depth expertise in the renewable energy sector and in the equity and development arrangements for projects and project platforms. Prior to re-joining Russell McVeagh in 2022, Michael spent eight years at Macquarie's Green Investment Group (GIG) in London, where he undertook lead roles on numerous investment and syndication transactions. Drawing on this experience, Michael provides strategic advice to clients and helps clients drive forward their projects and investment strategies in renewables and the broader infrastructure sector.

Michael began his career with Russell McVeagh in 2006 and returned to the firm in 2022 after 13 years in London. Michael spent eight years at Macquarie's GIG and, prior to that, five years at Slaughter and May advising a range of private equity, financial, and corporate clients.

Experience

Michael has extensive experience in the development and financing of projects and project platforms. This includes experience leading (in a commercial role at Macquarie's GIG) all aspects of numerous investment, capital formation and syndication transactions across the renewable energy subsectors in Europe and acting as a director on the boards of joint venture companies.

His relevant experience includes advising on:

The joint venture between Harmony Energy and First Renewables in relation to the Tauhei solar project.
A joint venture between GIG and Ontario Teachers Pension Plan (OTPP) for OTPP to invest up to US$1bn in development capital across a portfolio of offshore wind projects in Europe and Asia.
The sale of Bruc Iberia, a portfolio of 100MWp of operational solar and 31MWp of solar in development.
GIG’s investment in the Rampion and Galloper offshore wind extension projects and the associated joint venture and development services arrangements.
Acquisition of a 25% stake in the Westermost Rough offshore wind project from Marubeni Corporation.
Capital raising and joint venture transactions across a range of European renewable energy assets.

The privatisation and sale of the UK Green Investment Bank (GIB, now GIG) to Macquarie.
Establishment of the £1.12bn UK Green Investment Bank Offshore Wind Fund and advising on its investment transactions.
The UK Climate Investments joint venture between GIB and UK Government's Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy, established with up to £200m to invest in renewable and energy efficiency projects in developing nations.
GIB's £50m investment in UK community-scale renewable energy projects through Albion Community Power plc.
